Fifth District Court of Appeal Chief Judge Alan Lawson will become the 86th justice of the Florida Supreme Court. Appointed by Gov. Rick Scott Dec. 16, Lawson will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice James E.C. Perry. This is Scott’s first appointment to the Supreme Court and is effective Dec. 31. Bar President Bill Schifino said Scott had three excellent candidates to consider. “On behalf of The Florida Bar, I applaud the governor, the judicial nominating commission, and the process, and very much look forward to working with soon-to-be Justice Lawson,” Schifino said. “He has demonstrated himself to be an excellent jurist and someone who has the best interest of all Floridians at heart.”
