TUESDAY, APRIL 29, 2014 – TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Legal Services of North Florida, the Legal Aid Foundation of the Tallahassee Bar Association and the Tallahassee Bar Association are pleased to announce and host the Law Week Celebration 2014 recognition reception on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Osceola Sports Grill on the 6th floor of the University Center Club overlooking Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium. Over 750 volunteer attorneys from the government and private sectors will be honored for their contributions to pro bono legal services on behalf of poverty level citizens in our community at a reception sponsored by the Berger Singerman Law Firm, Carlton Fields Jorden Burt, LexisNexis, Synovus Trust Company, COPYFAX and the Florida Justice Association with contributions from the Tallahassee Barristers Association, the Tallahassee Women Lawyers (FAWL); the William H. Stafford American Inn of Court and the Young Lawyers’ Section of the Tallahassee Bar Association.

The reception will recognize local attorney, Sonia R. Crockett, for receiving the 2014 Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the 2nd Judicial Circuit. The featured guest speaker for the reception will be the Honorable Pam Bondi, Florida Attorney General. General Bondi has served in her post as the Florida Attorney General since assuming office in January 2011.

Immediately following the remarks by General Bondi, The Capital City Bar Presidents Council’s Richard W. Ervin Equal Justice Award will be presented to Twyla Sketchley for her lifelong dedication to serving Florida’s justice system. Also the Joy Aukema Taps 2014 Children’s Advocate of the Year Award will be presented to Children’s Staff Attorney for Legal Services of North Florida, Stephanie Johnson by Marc E. Taps, former LSNF Managing Attorney, in honor of his late wife’s work on behalf of children. Lastly, the Parks & Crump Thurgood Marshall 2014 Judicial Excellence Award will be presented to Leon County Circuit Judge Jonathan Sjostrom. The reception is open to the public with the recognition program beginning at 5:45 p.m. General parking is available. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided, along with a summer fun silent auction.

Legal Services of North Florida, the Legal Aid Foundation of the Tallahassee Bar Association, and the Tallahassee Bar Association in association with the member bar associations of the Capital City Bar Presidents Council are proud to host these special recognition events during nationally celebrated Law Week.
