COURTS AND THE PUBLIC WILL BENEFIT FROM BETTER COMMUNICATION
Tallahassee Democrat | Column | January 6, 2016
Columnist Bill Cotterell addresses a five-year plan issued by the Florida Supreme Court for improving public understanding of how courts operate. From the column: “The Judicial Management Council developed the plan, titled ‘Delivering Our Message,’ with suggestions from judges, reporters and editors, court public information officers and other staff across the state. The 41-page report lays out strategic goals, starting with ‘enhancing public trust and confidence.’ . . . The plan sets forth communications goals through 2019, but one of its first orders of business is to improve relations with the Legislature and state agencies. It seeks to ‘ensure the accuracy and adequacy of their understanding and perception of the judicial branch.’ This would seem a fortuitous time for that.”
